Waste Collection - Week of Canada Day Holiday
There will be no garbage and blue box recyclables collection on Monday, June 30, 2008.  Garbage and blue box recyclables will be collected one day later than normal the week of Monday, June 30th.  For instance,  if your waste is normally collected on Monday, it will  be collected on Tuesday.  If your waste is normally collected on Friday, it will be collected on Saturday.

Sunset Drive Area (Southside) Sanitary Sewage Servicing Study - Environmental Assessment
The Municipality has completed a sanitary sewage servicing study for the Sunset Drive Area.  Proposed improvements include the construction of  a sanitary sewage pumping station at the northwest corner of Sunset Drive and Karen Street and a forcemain along Sunset Drive to the existing gravity sewer south of Southdale Line.  Long-term improvements will be phased in over time to service new development and address failed systems.  To view the Study Notice of Completion, click here.  To view the Study, click here.

Port Stanley Main Beach Named  a Blue Flag Candidate Beach
Environmental Defence has named Main Beach as a 2008 Blue Flag Candidate Beach.  The Blue Flag is an international standard of 27 criteria involving water quality , environmental management, safety and services.   A candidate beach is in the process of full certification.  To view the Blue Flag press release, click here.  To learn more about Blue Flag program, click here.

Help Us Name That Park
The Municipality is inviting the public to name the small parkette on the east side of Belmont Road between Belmont TV and the former Masonic Hall.  To suggest a name, click here to obtain a form and then submit it to the Municipality on or before June 30, 2008.

Central Elgin Fire Rescue Recognized by the Fire Marshal
Nelly Green, Fire Protection Adviser, Office of the Fire Marshal, attended the March 25th Council meeting to present Mayor Sylvia Hofhuis and Fire Chief Donald Crocker with a Certificate of Compliance regarding the public safety education and prevention requirements of section 2 of the Fire Protection and Promotion Act, 1997.  To view the Office's report and learn more....
