2010 Municipal Budget

Council is currently reviewing the proposed 2010 Municipal Budget.  The Budget is reviewed in two phases.  In the first phase, Council reviews the budgets for the water and wastewater systems and the capital budget.   In the second phase, Council reviews the operating budget and finalizes the capital budget.

Council held two special meetings for its detailed review of the water system, wastewater system and capital budgets:  Monday, November 30, 2009 and Monday, December 7, 2009.

The operating budget review and the finalization of the capital budget will occur at special meetings scheduled for Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 7:00 pm and on Monday, April 12, 2010 following the regular 7:30 pm Council meeting.  All of these meetings are open to the public and you are invited to attend.  Following these meetings, Council will pass a by-law to adopt the budget, after first advising the public of this meeting date.

Planning for the Future

Accountants and financial advisors say that everyone should plan for their long-term goals and objectives, like buying a houise or retirement.  For Central Elgin, rebuilding your roads, improving parks and replacing water mains are similar goals.  Goals, whether they are personal or municipal, are more achievable with a plan.  Central Elgin was one of the first municipalities in the area to develop a Master Finance Plan outlining the financial steps Central Elgin needs to rebuild your infrastructure.

The capital budget and budgets for the water and wastewater systems are based on long term financial plans.
