Starting A New Business In Central Elgin

There are several steps required to start a business in Central Elgin.

1. Ensure that your business complies with our zoning regulations.

Contact the Central Elgin Planning Office at (519) 633-2560 to ensure that your proposed business and any associated development matches with our zoning regulations.  Please note that if a zoning amendment or other planning approvals are required, such approvals will require time for processing in accordance with the Planning Act and local policies.  This can take several week or months to complete, depending on the nature of the application.

2. Obtain a building permit, if necessary.

The Building Department requires that you obtain a building permit for any new construction, renovations, plumbing or for a change of use of the property. Please check with the Building Department if you have any questions about building permits requirements.

3. Obtain a fire inspection, if necessary.

If the building department has indicated that a fire inspection is necessary, please contact Fire Chief Chris McDonough at (519) 631-4860 x 249 to schedule one.

4. Obtain a public health inspection, if necessary.

If food will be served, your business will require a public health inspection. Please contact Southwestern Public Health to schedule an inspection.

 Special Notes

  • There is no business licence required for businesses in Central Elgin
