Animals At Large

According to By-Law 2530, dogs are prohibited from running at large in the Municipality of Central Elgin. The Municipality of Central Elgin partners with the St. Thomas City Animal Services Centre to address animal problems.

How Report 

To report any small animals at large, please call:

  • Animal Services Centre: (519) 631-7430 (during normal office hours)
  • Fire Department dispatch: (519) 631-0210 (for any after hour reporting)

Livestock (cattle, horses, sheep, goats, etc.) running at large should be reported to:

  • Municipality: (519) 631-4860
  • Police: 1-888-310-1122

Dangerous and Potentially Dangerous Dogs

The Municipality also regulates potentially dangerous dogs through By-Law 465. The By-law can require restrictions on the dog including muzzling and additional insurance.
