Property tax bills are mailed out twice a year.
Interim Tax Bill Due Dates: February 15th and May 15th
Final Tax Bill Due Dates: August 15th and November 15th
The 2021 interim tax billing is calculated at 50% of your 2020 property taxes. The 2021 final bills will be issued in July, and will reflect the current year's taxes less what has been levied for the interim billing.

Your property tax bill total is based on three tax rates:
The Municipality collects all three tax rates and then distributes approximately 49.86% of the taxes collected to the County of Elgin and application school boards. Central Elgin Council has no control of the tax levies set by the County of Elgin, or the Province of Ontario education levies. Each property within the Municipality has a property classification in accordance with the property’s use. Each tax class has a separate tax rate. The tax rates are determined when the annual budget has been approved. |

In Office |
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our office is currently open by appointment only. To pay your property tax bill in the office please call ahead to book an appointment at 519-631-4860. Payment by cash or cheque can be dropped off in the mail slot at the front entrance of the building. Please make sure the envelope is addressed to The Municipality of Central Elgin and includes your name and return address.Our office accepts cash, debit or cheques (please include the stub from your tax bill). Mortgage Companies |
If arrangements have been through a mortgage provider, tax amounts are sent directly to the property owner's mortgage company for payment. A bill is mailed to the owner at the end of the year after all payments have been received. |

Change Your Mailing Address |
If your mailing address information has changed you will need to notify the Municipality and provide your updated address. To change your mailing address, please fill out the Change of Address Request Form. |
A 1.25% penalty immediately following the due date, and the first day of each month thereafter to December 31st. After December 31st, interest will be at 1.25% per month or portion thereof until paid, as legislated under SECTION 345 of The Municipal Act, RSO 2001.
Failure to receive a tax notice does not relieve the taxpayer from payment of taxes or penalty for late payment. The Municipality is not responsible for bank or postal processing delays. Please allow enough processing time for the payment to be received. A $5.00 charge will apply for tax bill reprints.
Payments are applied first to any penalty and interest with the balance of payment applied to the oldest year's tax amount.
