MP Lawton announces project to map cellular dead zones

Andrew Lawton, Member of Parliament for Elgin—St. Thomas—London South has launched a local Cellular Connectivity Project to identify mobile dead zones and areas with persistently poor cellular coverage across Elgin, St. Thomas, and south London.

The initiative will collect data from residents, businesses, farmers, commuters, and community organizations about cellular coverage issues in their communities to share it directly with telecom service providers, who are federally regulated. Information gathered through the project will be used to map connectivity gaps and support ongoing advocacy for improved telecommunications service.

"Reliable cellular service is essential for public safety, business operations, agriculture, and staying connected with family and community," said Lawton. "Yet many residents continue to experience dropped calls, weak signals, and dead zones throughout our region. We need a clear picture of where these gaps exist so we can bring those concerns forward and advocate for improvements."
