Book a Pre-Consultation
To help make the development process easier, a pre-application consultation with Planning Services is recommended—and in some cases required—before submitting a planning application. This meeting helps applicants understand requirements, standards, and expectations under the Planning Act and identify the appropriate application type for their project.
Before applying, review the Planning Applications page to determine which application type is required for your proposal. In many cases, a pre-consultation with Planning Services is encouraged or required.
During the consultation, staff will review your proposal, identify any required studies or reports, and provide guidance on submission requirements and other relevant information to help support a complete application.

What to Expect
After submitting a Pre-Consultation Request Form, Planning and Engineering Services staff will review your proposal to confirm whether sufficient information has been provided to schedule a meeting. If additional information is required, you will be contacted.
Once your submission is complete and applicable fees have been received, a pre-consultation meeting will be scheduled, typically within 10–15 business days. Meetings are held virtually, or in person upon request at the Municipality of Central Elgin Administration Offices.
The meeting will include Municipal staff such as Planning, Engineering, and Building representatives, and may also involve other Municipal departments or external agencies depending on your proposal. The property owner is encouraged to attend, along with any agents or consultants involved in the project.
During the meeting, you should be prepared to discuss your proposal in detail and respond to questions. Staff will provide guidance on requirements, including any studies, reports, or additional information needed for a complete application.
