Notice - Building Fees and Charges
Pursuant to Subsection 7(6) of the Building Code Act,
S.O 1992, Chapter 23
TAKE NOTICE that the Municipality of Central Elgin will hold a Public Meeting to consider the passing of the Building By-Law to adopt new and amended existing building fees and changes under Section 7(6) of the Ontario Building Code Act, as amended.
A PUBLIC MEETING will be held by the Municipality of Central Elgin at the Elgin County Administration Building, 450 Sunset Drive, St. Thomas, ON N5R 5V1 on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
PURPOSE AND EFFECT the Municipality of Central Elgin is proposing to amend the Building Permit By-law no. 2029 and Fees By-law no. 2026-05 following a comprehensive building fee review. The purpose will be to bring the building permit fees in line with current direct and indirect costs related to administering and enforcing the Ontario Building Code Act in the Municipality.
A REPORT outlining fee recommendations and rationale as a result of the comprehensive building fee review completed jointly with BMA Management Consulting Inc. and Municipal Staff will be available and can be viewed on the Municipal Website, upon request, and the Council agenda at https://centralelgin.civicweb.net/portal/.
The report will include information related to building permit fees including:
• An estimate of the costs of administering and enforcing the Ontario Building Code Act by the Municipality;
• The amount of the fee or the change of the existing fee;
• The rationale for imposing or changing the fee; and
• Information as it relates to the Building Department Reserve Fund.
