The Municipality of Central Elgin is excited to announce a new partnership with YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, offering Central Elgin residents access to indoor swimming at the Family YMCA St. Thomas-Elgin branch at a reduced resident rate.

This program provides affordable, year-round water safety programs, helps residents build swimming skills, and promotes health and wellness through family-friendly exercise opportunities.

"Central Elgin is home to the beautiful beaches of Port Stanley, where residents enjoy swimming in the lake during the summer months,” said Mayor Andrew Sloan. “Now, through this partnership with YMCA, residents can enjoy indoor swimming closer to home and at reduced rates. Swimming is not only a vital life skill but also a fun, healthy way for families to stay active throughout the year. This partnership reflects Council’s commitment to supporting the health and wellness of our community."

“We are thrilled to welcome Central Elgin residents into this aquatic partnership with the Y,” said Andrew Lockie, CEO, YMCA of Southwestern Ontario. “By working together, we’re removing barriers to safe, year-round aquatics close to home and opening more welcoming spaces where people can build health, confidence, and connection. When neighbours have affordable access to programs that fit their lives, communities thrive. We’re proud to help create opportunities that remind us we’re greater together, supporting lifelong wellness for residents across the region.”

The Central Elgin swim pass gives residents access to YMCA’s open swim times, lane swims, aquafit classes, and Parent & Tot drop-in sessions. Aquatics passes are available for purchase only at the Family YMCA of St. Thomas-Elgin (20 High Street, St Thomas, ON N5R 5V2). Aquatic passes will be offered at Central Elgin rates with proof of Central Elgin residency required at the time of purchase. Residents do not need to have a Y membership to purchase a swim pass.

The aquatics pass program will operate as a pilot program throughout 2026, with participation and feedback helping inform future decisions.
