Central Elgin Council has approved funding for seven local projects and initiatives through the Community Grant and Sponsorship Program, providing a total of $26,261 in support across the municipality.

Launched in July, the Community Grant and Sponsorship Program was a pilot initiative for 2025 created to provide financial and in-kind support to local community groups and not-for-profit organizations. The program was designed to encourage and strengthen volunteer and community-based groups that contribute to the social, cultural, and economic well-being of Central Elgin.

“These diverse projects showcase the dedication and creativity of our local organizations,” said Mayor Andrew Sloan. “By investing in these initiatives, Council is helping strengthen community connections and create opportunities that enrich the lives of residents across Central Elgin.”

Community Grants Approved for 2025:

Belmont Swans – $781 grant

Heritage Port Stanley – $480 grant

London Down Syndrome Association – $5,000 grant

Funding to develop and deliver music therapy sessions in Central Elgin, providing inclusive opportunities and support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

South Dorchester Home & School Association – $5,000 grant

Funding will go towards the purchase of two playground sets and swings for the future Belmont school, part of a broader fundraising campaign in preparation for the school’s opening for the 2026–27 school year.

Sparta Community Society – $5,000 grant

Funds will be used to create a fully certified kitchen in their lower level space to increase the functionality of the building, thereby increasing additional revenue to support existing and new programs for the community.

Belmont Historical Society – $5,000 grant

Funding will support the installation of high-quality signs featuring written information and historic photos. The project also aims to install braille signs and three-dimensional carbon fiber models for the visually impaired. Signs will be linked through a walking tour to engage visitors and residents with the town’s history.

In total, 11 applications were received for the program. Council thanks all applicants for their submissions and for the work they are doing to strengthen the community. The approved projects demonstrate the diversity of local initiatives underway in Central Elgin and the important role that volunteer and community organizations play in enhancing quality of life.

Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to the Municipality’s website and social media channels for updates on the outcomes and progress of the funded projects.
