Central Elgin - In October 2021 and again in October 2022, the Municipality of Central Elgin Fire Rescue Services worked with the Asset Management & Development Services Department and the Infrastructure & Community Services Department to review and evaluate the fire department’s ability to continuously provide shuttled water in excess of the minimum requirement of a municipal fire hydrant as part of the Fire Underwriters Survey Superior Tanker Shuttle Certification.

On October 15, 2022, the Municipality of Central Elgin Fire Rescue Services attempted a Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation that would see the potential reduction of insurance ratings for more residents and businesses in the Municipality of Central Elgin.

The Municipality of Central Elgin Fire Rescue Services completed a Residential and Commercial evaluation delivering a required flow in excess of 540 USG/min for a period of an hour. This means that once Fire Underwriters Survey records are updated those residential properties within 8km of a fire station and 5 km of a hydrant, or commercial buildings located within 5 kms of a fire station and 2.5 kms of a fire hydrant will be eligible for a rating reduction with regards to their fire insurance rating upon their renewal.

Fire Chief Ray Ormerod commented, "I am proud to inform you that the great work, training and dedication of the firefighters of the Municipality of Central Elgin (Port Stanley, Union, Belmont and Yarmouth Centre) have achieved a very impressive Superior Tanker Shuttle Certification on their first attempt."
