The Victoria Day long weekend marks the unofficial kickoff to summer, and the Municipality of Central Elgin is gearing up for a season packed with fun. With warmer days ahead and summer fast approaching, there's no better time to get outside. Make a Splash in Belmont!

The Municipality’s splash pad at Don Yeck Park is set to reopen on Saturday, May 17. Running daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., this free water play zone features interactive spray elements that activate with the push of a button, perfect for cooling off on a warm day.

While you're there, enjoy everything Don Yeck Park has to offer, including restrooms, a picnic area, playground, soccer field, baseball diamond, pavilion, and skate park!

Celebrate Safely: Fireworks Guidelines for May 19

As you celebrate this long weekend, please remember that fireworks are only permitted on Monday, May 19, between dusk and midnight. Your cooperation helps reduce noise, fire risks, and protects our wildlife and community.

Fireworks can be dangerous if not handled responsibly. Weather conditions should always be taken into consideration, and a water hose or pail of water should be kept nearby. Fireworks are never permitted to be discharged in municipal parks or on streets.

  • Make sure you are not close to houses, trees, cars, overhead wires, or dry grass
  • Keep onlookers a safe distance away from the area where the fireworks are discharged

In the event of a fire or personal injury that requires immediate medical attention, residents are reminded to call 9-1-1.

Game On: Sports Fields and Courts Are Ready for Play

Municipal sports fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and pickleball courts have reopened for the season and will be maintained throughout the summer.

Visiting Port Stanley? Here’s Everything You Need to Know for a Fun Weekend

If you’re looking for visitor information while visiting Port Stanley, the Visitor Centre is reopening for the season on Saturday, May 17. Located at 199 Carlow Road, the Visitor Centre is open seven days a week 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. during the tourist season.

Washrooms Now Open
Public washrooms have reopened for the season. Public washrooms and changerooms at Main Beach are open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Public washrooms at the Port Stanley Visitor Centre are also open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Additional portable washrooms are located at Little Beach, Maude Street, Main Beach, Erie Rest Beach, Visitor Centre Lot, Boat Launch, and Little Creek Park.

Paid Parking in Effect
Paid parking in municipal parking lots is now in effect daily between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Boat Launch Parking Lot is monitored and enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Beach Safety
Beachgoers are reminded that lifeguards are not yet on patrol this season, however, lifesaving equipment is available.

Residents and visitors are reminded to follow these beach guidelines to help keep everyone safe and ensure an enjoyable experience for all:

  • Bonfires, barbecues, or outdoor cooking devices are not allowed in municipal parks or on beaches
  • No alcohol, smoking, or vaping is permitted on the beaches or in public areas
  • Dogs are not permitted at any time on Central Elgin beaches
  • Littering is strictly prohibited, please use the designated waste and recycling bins
  • Personal watercraft and motorized boats must remain outside designated swimming areas
  • Camping tents and large shelters are not permitted on Central Elgin beaches

Residents are reminded that the Municipal Office at 450 Sunset Drive will be closed on Monday, May 19 and will reopen on Tuesday, May 20 at 8:30 a.m.
