During this National Public Works Week, we'd like to thank our hardworking Parks and Recreational crew of 12 full time employees, 8 seasonal employees, and 5 bridge operators, for all they do throughout the year!

So, what exactly does this incredible team do?
Well hold on to your socks, because these guys don't mess around!

Our Parks & Recreation department is now in a spring transition period. They've removed the ice from both arenas and are shifting to outside work while still maintaining the arenas' other operating functions.

The outside work is extensive and diverse. Bookings for baseball diamonds and soccer fields are increasing, as is field maintenance. Rolling, air orating, fertilizing, laying out lines, and debris clean up are examples of these operations. Gardens require dead cut back, edging, and mulching. Lawn mowers, saws, paint spray, weed sprayers, beach groomers, and other park equipment are serviced and set up.

The lift bridge becomes fully staffed again and boat traffic demands are high.

Each spring, the beach sand control from the winter must be levelled and shifted around. Every day, public restrooms are opened and maintained. Parking lot maintenance is prioritized, such as filling potholes that formed throughout the winter. Playgrounds and skate parks are frequently inspected and maintained. Belmont Splash Pad opens and also serves as a regular maintenance location. Parks and Harbour furnishings that were stored throughout the winter are returned to their proper locations. Annual flowers and containers arrive for hanging and planting as the weather warms.

Lake water sampling begin in mid-June and continue throughout the summer.

Again, we'd want to take a moment to thank our dedicated Parks and Recreation crew for working tirelessly around the clock, year after year, in cold or hot weather. Your efforts are not unnoticed, and you play a significant role in keeping our communities running and well-maintained!
