Let's hear it for our Roads and Transportation crew during National Public Works week!
Let's shine some light on this stellar team!
These dedicated workers are made up of 17 people. They make certain that our extensive road system, bridges, and sidewalks meet with provincial regulations, and that our vehicles and equipment are in proper working order.
Did you know that during the winter season, this team responded to nearly 40 winter events which spread across 50+ days/nights, removing snow and ice from over 350 km of roads, and 40 km of sidewalks and walkways - they don't mess around! They frequently worked throughout the night to ensure that everyone could travel safety on the roads. Now that's Ready and Resilient!
We are now transitioning to summer operations. Since the winter melt, crews have been repairing sod and landscaping, sweeping streets and bike lanes, washing sand and salt from bridges, filling potholes, and grading gravel roads and shoulders.
During the warmer months, other maintenance activities may include: tree trimming, stump removal, dust suppressant application, storm drainage system repairs, roadside ditch maintenance, roadside grass mowing, re-painting of road centre lines and pavement markings, sign and guardrail maintenance and replacement, sidewalk inspections and repairs, general road cleanup and debris removal, and preparation for the 2022 Road Resurfacing Program.
Again, we want to take this moment to thank our dedicated Roads and Transportation team once more; you are essential to keeping our communities running smoothly!
