NOTICE OF AN APPLICATION AND PUBLIC MEETING

CONCERNING PROPOSED OFFICIAL PLAN AMENDMENT

Municipality of Central Elgin 5-Year Official Plan Update

TAKE NOTICE that:

a) pursuant to Sections 17 and 26 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, as amended, the Corporation of the Municipality of Central Elgin has initiated an update to its Official Plan. Access to the information and material provided under subsections 17(19.1) in support of the application is available for public access, and

b) a Public Meeting, pursuant to Subsection 17(15)(d) of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, as amended, will be held by the Council of the Municipality of Central Elgin on the 20th day of July, 2022 at 6:00 P.M. to consider the proposed Official Plan amendment to the Municipality of Central Elgin Official Plan. The purpose of the Public Meeting is to afford any person that attends, an opportunity to make representation with respect to the Official Plan proposal. The meeting will be conducted virtually by Zoom Webinar (detailed information for this meeting can be found at https://www.letstalkcentralelgin.ca/official-plan-review).

The Municipality of Central Elgin is reviewing its Official Plan to ensure that the land use planning policies are current, reflect updated Provincial policy and legislation, and reflect changing community needs for the next 25-years. The update applies to all lands within the municipality.

The Official Plan is a land use planning document that includes a vision, goals, and land use policy directions for the Municipality. It provides a policy framework for topics such as resource and growth management, the provision of community and physical services, protection of the environment and human health and safety, economic development and asset management. The Official Plan recognizes the matters of local land use planning interest while also ensuring that the policies are consistent with the 2020 Provincial Policy Statement and conform to the County of Elgin Official Plan.

ANY PERSON OR PUBLIC BODY may attend the Public Meeting and/or make written or verbal representation either in support of, or in opposition to the proposed Official Plan Amendment.

If a person or public body would otherwise have an ability to appeal the decision of the Council of the Municipality of Central Elgin to the Ontario Land Tribunal but the person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Municipality of Central Elgin before the by-law is passed, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision.

If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting, or make written submissions to the Municipality of Central Elgin before the by-law is passed, the person or public body may not be added as a party to the hearing of an appeal before the Ontario Land Tribunal unless, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to do so.

If you wish to be notified of the decision of the Council of the Municipality of Central Elgin on the proposed zoning by-law amendment, you must make a written request to the undersigned.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION relating to the proposed Official Plan update is available for inspection daily, Monday to Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Municipal Offices and at the Central Elgin Planning Office, 9 Mondamin Street, St. Thomas.
